Summer Fresh Body Powder

Summer is finally here!  All of us at Voyageur are loving the bright sunshine streaming into our warehouse and the long, warm evenings.  There is, however, one major downside to working in a warehouse in summer.  It gets HOT.  We have multiple fans blowing at all times and still the inevitable gloss of sweat appears at our foreheads as the day progresses.  This is what drove us to formulating the recipe below for a refreshing body powder.

Body powders are a combination of dry ingredients to help soothe irritation and absorb excess moisture.  Our formula is a blend of 3 powders:  Arrowroot, Natrasorb, and Corn Starch.  Arrowroot powder is a naturally occurring starch that was traditionally used by the Natives to heal wounds from poison arrows.  It is now used in many cosmetic and medicinal products. Natrasorb is tapioca starch that is modified to have a greater surface area to hold large percentages of oils.  It is very useful in bath powders as well as body powders where scent is desired, and leaves the skin feeling super soft.  Corn Starch is a demulcent and emollient used extensively in dusting powders, rash treatments, and baby products.  It forms a protective layer on the skin, keeping in moisture and leaving it feeling silky.

Let's face it, sweat happens in the worst places and sometimes it's very helpful to have a little refresher mid-day!  Here's the formula:
1/2 cup Arrowroot Powder
1/4 cup Natrasorb
1/4 cup Corn Starch

Directions:

1.  Measure out the Natrasorb into a medium sized bowl.  Add 20-40 drops of essential oil of your choice.  We recommend ones like Tea Tree and Lavender that have anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties to help eliminate any odour.

2.  Mix the powder and essential oil thoroughly until no clumps remain, then add the Arrowroot and Corn Starch to the mixture.

3.  Mix well until everything is combined, then package it into our HDPE Powder Shakers.  You can either spoon it in if you have a steady hand, or put the mixture into a zip lock back and cut the corner to release the powder a small amount at a time.

4.  To seal the bottles firmly roll your hand over the cap until a clicking noise is heard and the cap is on tight.

Apply the powder liberally when you need a fresh pick-me-up throughout the day!
